A self-proclaimed feminist and pro-abortion activist who kicked a pro-life woman while she was filming a protest received a minimal sentence for the assault.

On September 30th, 2018, the pro-life group Life Chain held a pro-life rally in down-town Toronto, Canada. About 75 people showed up to support the rights of the innocent unborn. Many activists were holding pro-life posters that read “Abortion Hurts Women”, “Abortion Kills Children,” “Adoption, the Loving Option”, and signs with christian sentiments. It was a peaceful and silent protest and participants were instructed not to begin conversations with passersby or display any aggressive behavior towards them.

A local coordinator for the event, Marie Claire Bissonnette, was assigned to the corner of Bloor and Keele Streets where she was to hand out signs and to take count of the number of participants. She stated in an account of the incidents to come:

One pro-abortion woman, probably in her late twenties, stood amongst us holding a sign that read, “My body, my choice, my right”. She was the only counter-protester present throughout, and she peacefully shared the corner with the rest of us.

She went on to describe the groups first altercation with the offending protester:

A man in his late twenties to early thirties observed the demonstration and, taking out two markers, one red and one blue, he managed to deface two of our signs. After I warned people to shield their signs, he then proceeded to run up behind five of the participants (including a ten-year-old girl) and scribble with his markers on their backs, ruining their clothing.

When Bissonnette began filming, she told the man that his actions were vandalism and destruction of private property. His reaction was captured in the video below.

A former hairdresser, Jordan Hunt, age 27, faced two charges of assault and one of mischief under $5,000 for kicking Ms. Bissonnette and for another video altercation at another event. Toronto Justice Michael Block sentenced him to eight months probation for the infractions.

Hunt was also ordered Hunt to stay 100 meters away from any future pro-life rallies and to pay $200 in restitution for the damage he caused.  He also ordered not contact those named as victims in the case, and attend counseling under supervision of his probation officer. Prosecutors also requested that Hunt submit a sample of his DNA considering the fact that he’d fled the scene after two separate assaults.

Life Site News reported that Hunt also apologized to everyone he hurt by his actions in an undated letter read out loud by Justice Block.

Everyone should have the right to be without fear when they act on their beliefs. I sincerely regret that I chose such a poor way of expressing myself.
