Maurene Comey, the daughter of disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, has been confirmed as one of the prosecutors in the Jeffrey Epstein case. The announcement was made today in an 11 a.m press conference ahead of Eptsein’s arraignment hearing.  Maurene Comey has served as an assistant US attorney in the Southern District of New York since 2015. Her father, who was fired from his position at the FBI by President Trump nearly two years ago, held the same position from 1987 to 1993.

Members of the FBI and the prosecutorial team on the Epstein case held a press conference at the courthouse in Manhattan. Epstein is set to meet with Judge Pittman around 1 p.m. and then later in the afternoon in front of Judge Berman.

Epstein was busted after his private jet arrived from Paris at Teterboro Airport around 5:30 PM on Saturday evening. Investigators exercised a warrant at his  New York mansion where additional pictures of seemingly under age girls were discovered.

Epstein is being held on two felony charges, with multiple counts of each. The first is conspiracy to commit trafficking and the second, sex trafficking of under aged girls. It is alleged that between 2002 and 2005 Epstein enticed dozens of young victims to his New York and his Palm Beach, Florida residences to provide him with sex for money. Girls often as young as 14 years of age, performed various direct and indirect sex acts on him and likely others.  They were forced to gave him massages either partially or fully nude. The girls were then given hundreds of dollars in cash for each encounter, either by Epstein or by his employees.

Many of the victims were recruited for Epstein by his employees. Some of the victims themselves were enticed into recruiting other victims for Epstein.  Victims were often children from the foster care system, students, refugees and illegal immigrants.

The FBI and prosecutors see Epstein as a significant flight risk because he owns several airplanes and spends a significant amount of time abroad. They will be requesting that he remain in detention until trial and he will be required to relinquish his passport. Given the seriousness of the charges they expect that he has every incentive to flee because, if found guilty, he is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
