According to the Wisconsin State Journal, 13,000 customers of Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) were without electricity.

An MGE spokesperson confirmed the fire in a statement to The Hill, saying in a Friday statement that it caused “some” customers to be out of service.

The spokesperson also said the substation fire is out and that a damage assessment is set to begin. The company does not have an estimated time of power restoration.

“MGE regrets any inconvenience and urges customers to seek indoor areas with air conditioning,” the statement said.

The city’s fire department said in a Facebook post that it was responding to a “significant fire” adding that there were no reported injuries. The department also said that several traffic lights in downtown Madison were out of service.
