Morris Township, NJ – Morris Township, New Jersey’s may have just seen some of it’s mail in ballots go up in smoke. A mail truck destined for the county, which likely had a bundle of mail-in ballots on board, caught fire during a delivery run on Monday. The cause of the fire was reportedly a mechanical issue and the driver was not injured in the blaze.
According to Postal Times,
The U.S. Postal Service notified Morris County election officials on Monday morning that an undetermined number of ballots were burned.
These were ballots being delivered to voters and not completed ballots on their way to the Board of Elections, although it’s not immediately clear if the letter carrier picked up any returned ballots prior to the fire.
The county’s primary was originally scheduled for June 2nd, but has been rescheduled for July 7th due to the coronavirus pandemic. NJ elections will be predominantly by mail, but at least 21 counties will offer limited in-person voting.
The U.S. Postal service has posted a list of addresses they believe were affected and ask any voters located at those addresses who has not received a mail-in ballot contact the County Clerk office immediately. They can be reached at 973-285-6066.

- Jason Lane, 4-14 & 15-1
- Colonel Evans Dr., 10-22 & 23-1
- Bradford Ct., 5, 3, 2, 1
- Sussex Ave., 632 – 500
