Chief United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and Chicago native, Merrick Garland, may be set to hear President Trump’s appeal over the release of his financial records to House Democrats. Garland was nominated by Barack Obama to the Supreme Court in 2016, after the death of Antonin Scalia. But, Trump won the election and appointed Neil Gorsuch, leaving Garland on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals instead.
A panel of three judges is randomly assigned to the case, so Garland may not necessarily hear the appeal. However, if the decision is reviewed by the full court, then Garland would preside over the hearing.
Twitter Democrats and left-leaning journalists are happy, calling this a bit of karmic justice.
Still others are keeping their head together and expecting Garland to act professionally and in an non-partisan manner.
The outcome remains to be seen. Should Trump lose his case in the US Court of Appeals, his attorneys will likely take it to the highest court in the land, SCOTUS.
