Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has had multiple ethics charges filed against her, she’s been implicated in ballot harvesting schemes in Minnesota, and she has been married to a man that was likely her brother. Now, reports say that she has paid her third husband Tim Mynott’s consulting firm, E Street Group LLC, more than 2.8 million dollars for consulting work since 2019.
According to the New York Post,
The FEC allows lawmakers to hire family members or spouses to work on their campaigns, but a political ethics expert said the practice creates suspicion and should be banned. Omar has denied any wrongdoing regarding her relationship with her husband when ethics questions were raised about payments to his firm earlier this year.
OpenSecrets.Or, reports in its report on the E Street Group that the top customer of Omar’s husbands was Omar herself, by more than a factor of five, based on information up to date as of October 23rd, 2020.
Fox News has reported that Omar had ended her professional ties with Mynett’s firm in mid-November and continues to deny any wrongdoing. She announced the change in an email to supporters, a move likely aimed to curb suspicions about their professional relationship.
Omar easily won re-election over her republican challenger in Minnesota. However, given the current state of the 2020 election and evidence reported by Project Veritas of ballot harvesting in her district, it would not be a stretch to wonder if her win was valid. With all the controversies that swirled around the ‘Squad’ member’s first term, it is surprising the people of Minnesota re-elected her… if they indeed did.
Of course, Omar vehemently denies any wrong doing and claims all payments to Mynott’s firm were on the up and up.
Omar’s husband also received $635,000.00 of taxpayer money in Covid relief funds. About $134,000 of that was for the Paycheck Protection Program to help the firm pay furloughed employees. Another $500,000.00 came in the form of Economic Injury Disaster Loans.
Omar continues to be the subject of much disdain from the right. As a member of the Squad, she has ruffled feathers on both sides of the isle. As a re-elected Congresswoman, we have no doubt she will continue to do so, and profit while doing it.
