Michigan State Representative Karen Whitsett, gave credit to President Donald Trump and his support of using hydroxychloroquine to treat coronavirus, after she tested positive for Covid-19 and was administered the drug to for treatment.
Whitsett tested positive for the virus last month and was quickly feeling better after taking the anti-malaria medication. She praised the president for his support of using the drug, saying she believes his support of it saved her life.
Whitsett stated:
It has a lot to do with the president … bringing it up…he is the only person who has the power to make it a priority.
Trump sent Whitsett a congratulatory tweet, stating he was glad that she is feeling better.
A number of prominent doctors have advocated for the use of the drug stating their dismay at the controversy over it’s use.
We’ve used it for years to treat RA and lupus where patients use it on a daily basis with very little consequence,
said Dr. Mehmet Oz, on Hannity radio show. He noted other MD’s hes spoken to are not sure what the controversy is about. A growing number of physicians are prescribing the drug, as data continues to prove benefit. However, critics continue to say they want to wait for official clinical trial data before promoting wide use of it for Covid-19 infection.
