YouTube Suspends OANN Demonetizes Older Videos Over Coronavirus Coverage

YouTube has suspended One America News Network (OANN) a conservative news outlet, preventing them from from posting new videos for one week. YouTube also demonetized OANNs older video. A spokesperson for the Google-owned company said they made the decision because OANN had posted a video containing misleading information about the coronavirus.

OANN posted a video stating that there is a permanent cure for Covid-19, giving the company a misleading information strike. YouTube stated that they demonetization the channel due to “repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy and other channel monetization policies.”

OANN has also been suspended from YouTubes Partner Program. In order to rejoin the program, OANN will be required to re-apply.

The suspension comes on the heels of a letter sent to YouTube by a group of senators, requesting that the company address ways to stem election misinformation on its platform.

President Trump has been a big proponent of the news station, which has been very pro-Trump in it’s coverage. Chanel Rion, a popular commentator for the network is a member of the White House Press corps.

YouTube stated they do not consider OANN a credible news source.
