One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a second fatal shooting took place near Seattle’s Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP) early Monday morning. The shooting reportedly took place near 12th Avenue and Pike Street according to police investigating the incident. The location is about one block from the park where organizers initially founded Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), which was later renamed.
Both victims were transported to Harborview Medical Center’s Emergency Department. One victim was transported to the ER by Seattle Fire Department medics and the other arrived by private car. The first to arrive at 3 a.m. died at the hospital, while the other remains in critical condition.
The first fatal shooting in CHOP occurred a little over one week ago, and had a similar outcome.
FIRST MURDER HAS OCCURRED IN CHOP
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan had called for dismantling the ‘summer of love’ after the first fatality, but efforts to do so were thwarted by protesters who laid down in the street in front of bull dozers. The city crews left without removing any of the concrete barricades they had provided after a few hours.
